frequently asked questions about the studio
How and when do I secure my booking?
Your Booking is confirmed once full payment is received via our booking system. We accept credit card payments through Stripe. Once payment is processed, your session is officially yours.
Can I arrive early to set up?
Your booked time includes setup and pack-down. If you arrive before your start time, the space may still be in use. We recommend booking a little extra time if you know you’ll need more than just shoot time. Overtime fees apply if you run over your booked slot.
What if I run over my booking time?
If your session extends beyond your booked hours, an overtime fee of $120 + GST per hour applies. We invoice this within 7 days of your shoot and ask for payment then.
Can I cancel or reschedule my booking?
Cancellations more than 72 hours before your session = full refund
Cancellations between 24–72 hours = $150 + GST fee
Less than 24 hours’ notice = no refund
You can reschedule once at no charge if done over 72 hours in advance. If rescheduling happens within 24–72 hours, a $75 + GST fee applies. Unfortunately, changes within 24 hours aren't possible and you’ll need to rebook at full cost.
What happens if GRAVITATE Studio must cancel?
On the off chance we have to cancel a confirmed session (for example, due to maintenance or other unforeseen issues), we’ll aim to let you know ASAP and offer either a refund or a new slot. Please note: we’re not liable for other costs you might incur.
Can I hire the space by the hour?
Hourly hire is available with a 2-hour minimum. If you're planning a quick shoot, a half-day, or something more flexible, we’ll help you find a time slot that suits. Rates vary based on usage and length.
Do you have props or equipment available?
Yes! When you hire the studio, you get access to a range of helpful gear and amenities — all included at no extra cost. Here’s what’s available for your shoot or event:
- Light stands
- Large working tables (Concrete and White)
- Makeup station
- Movable couches
- Assorted chairs & chill out area
- Clothing rack
- Acoustic walls
- Sandbags & clamps
- Sonos Bluetooth speaker
- Floor fan
- Fridge & kitchenette
- Extension cords & power leads
- Wi-Fi
If you need specific lighting, camera gear, or backdrop paper, those can be hired separately. Let us know prior to your booking what you need, and we’ll help you get sorted.
What does “dry hire” mean?
Dry hire means you're renting the studio space only and without a photographer, videographer, or in-house crew. You bring your own team and gear, or hire equipment from us. You’re in full creative control.
Can I come and inspect the studio before booking?
Of course. We offer free 10–15 minute inspections by appointment. Just get in touch to book a walkthrough. We’re happy to show you around and answer any questions on-site.
Do you have parking onsite?
There is free street parking available outside the studio, and it's usually easy to find a spot close by. Bump-in access is also straightforward, making it easy to unload equipment or props.
How do I access the studio on the day?
We’ll send you clear access instructions after your booking is confirmed, including parking, bump-in info, and any access codes if needed.
Is the studio available on weekends?
Yes we offer bookings 7 days a week. Just note that availability is limited on weekends, so we recommend booking early.
Can I bring my own equipment?
Yes! Bring any cameras, lighting, or accessories you need. The space is plug-and-play and supports both BYO setups and our in-house equipment.
What are your business hours?
Standard hire hours are between 8:00am and 6:00pm, but we offer flexible bookings outside these times by request. Need an early start or late finish? Let us know and we’ll try to accommodate.
Where is the studio located?
We’re based in Tweed Heads South, just minutes from the M1 and a short drive from both Byron Bay and the Gold Coast. The address is: Unit 5 / 43 Corporation Circuit, Tweed Heads South, NSW. Free street parking is available right outside.
Do I have to pay a deposit to secure my spot?
We require full payment at the time of booking to confirm your session. Once payment is made via our online system (payments securely powered by Stripe), your spot is officially locked in.
Can I use the space for my event or party?
The studio is available for hire for small events, brand activations, wellness classes, and private creative events. We just ask that you let us know your intended use when booking so we can confirm suitability and capacity. (Note: big late-night parties aren’t quite our thing.)
Do you offer in-house photography or videography services?
Yes, we work with trusted creatives who know the space. Whether you need a photographer, videographer, editor, or stylist, let us know your concept and we’ll aim to match you with the right talent.
Does the price include video or photography lighting gear?
Our base studio hire includes basic lighting modifiers and natural light access. Professional lighting kits (continuous or flash) and stands are available for hire at an extra fee. We’ll send you the full gear list on request.
Is the studio filled with natural light?
It sure is. The front of the studio benefits from gorgeous natural light throughout the day - perfect for lifestyle, portrait, and product shoots. If you prefer to control your lighting, we also offer full blackout options and studio lighting equipment.
Is the studio soundproof?
The studio is acoustically treated and generally quiet. It's ideal for most photography and videography needs. While not fully soundproof, it’s been designed to minimise echo and outside noise. For most talking-head videos, voiceovers, and interviews, it does the job beautifully.
Is the studio completely private during my booking?
Yes, the studio space itself is private and reserved just for you. Our friendly digital marketing team works upstairs in a separate area and may use the shared bathroom and front entrance, but they won’t enter your space or interrupt your session. It’s your time, your shoot, your setup.
Do you have air conditioning of heating?
Yes, the studio is temperature controlled and comfortable year-round with a reverse cycle air conditioner. If you have specific needs for talent, wardrobe, or product, let us know and we’ll help accommodate.
Can I use smoke machines, glitter, paint, or confetti?
Let’s chat first. Some materials (like powder, glitter, or paint) can stain the cyclorama or be difficult to clean up. We may approve certain items with a larger bond or higher cleaning fee. Always check before the shoot so we’re on the same page.
What if someone in my group gets injured or causes damage?
As the booking party, you’re responsible for the safety, behaviour, and actions of your crew, clients, or guests. We suggest your own public liability insurance, especially for commercial shoots or events. GRAVITATE is not liable for personal injury or third-party damage.
What are your cleaning and damage policies?
Please leave the studio in the condition you found it. That means tidying up props, removing rubbish, and avoiding major scuffs or spills. If the cyclorama is stained or damaged, repainting starts at $120 + GST. Cleaning fees may apply for excessive mess. Treat the space like it’s yours (but cleaner).
Do you offer discounts for recurring bookings or subscriptions?
We sure do. If you're planning regular content days, recurring classes, or ongoing shoots, we offer discounted rates for studio hire packages or subscriptions. Just get in touch and we’ll work out a custom setup that suits your flow.
Do you allow food and drinks inside the studio?
Yes, within reason. Please be respectful of the space, and let us know if you're planning catering or food for an event.
Do you allow pets on set?
We love furry friends, but you’ll need prior approval before bringing any pets into the studio. If approved, they must be supervised at all times, and any damage or mess will be your responsibility. Please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Can I bring my own gear and film behind the scenes?
Absolutely. Bring your own equipment or opt to hire ours. Just let us know your setup needs in advance so we can ensure a smooth start. And yes, BTS content is welcome (we might even ask to feature it on our socials).
What can I use the studio for and what’s off limits?
You must use the space for the purpose agreed at booking. Prohibited activities include vaping, smoking, alcohol, hazardous materials, or any illegal acts. Your crew and guests must behave professionally and respect the space. Breaches may result in being asked to leave without refund.
How should I leave the studio when my booking ends?
We ask that you leave the studio as you found it. That is clean, tidy, and ready for the next guest. Please allow enough time within your booking to pack down, wipe surfaces, return furniture to its place, and remove any rubbish. A cleaning fee may apply if the space needs extra attention after you leave.
Can I book a recurring time slot for regular content or classes?
Yes! If you want the same time weekly or monthly (for content batching, workshops, or regular client shoots), we can reserve a recurring slot. Just reach out and we’ll help lock it in.
Do you require a bond or security deposit?
No bond is required for standard bookings, but you’ll be invoiced for any damage, overtime, repainting, or excessive cleaning. For larger events or high-risk bookings, we may request a refundable bond at our discretion.
Can I use the studio for commercial shoots or ad campaigns?
Definitely. We’re set up for everything from fashion campaigns to ecommerce content to branded video shoots. Just make sure you flag any special crew, tech, or licensing requirements when booking.
